I bought this film on DVD a year ago, I had'nt seen it for a decade and it was one of those films that caught my imagination as a child. Now I'm after a copy for a friend and the DVD second hand price has rocketed in value, is the fan base for this movie growing or what? I used to have the english dubbed version on video, why don't they release this along with the french version for the films' 25th anniversary next year? Lets start the pertition to have this re-released NOW!
fraid the english dubbed version was done by the BBC in the UK only, they made it for their own local broadcast and has now been lost in their archives...it would need to be bought outright by the publishers i guess before it could be put into the DVD release. Unless of course the BBC make their own DVD release of it, but its highly doubtful.
The english dubbed version sat proudly in my video library....until I moved home, went travelling, e.t.c. so it was lost in a clear out of old tapes by my family...it was aired nearly twenty years ago! Are there other people out there with it still on tape? If you know anyone... I would be interested in a copy.
I love how much of a stir this film has created - I saw it twice (I believe) on the BBC as a kid. I'd sell my right arm for a dubbed copy! I've got the French edition with subtitles which is also superb but I'm a sucker for the dubbed version...we can but hope :-S
Hi, as with all of you this film touched me greatly as a kid and am too desparate to get the dubbed version. I've gone on BBC shop website and "contact" and asked whether they could release it on DVD. Can't hurt if more people did it......
Hey can someone give me the contact BBC email address to plead my case? :) I saw this film as a child and for YEARS searched for it's name. It's got to be in the english dubbed version however, because half of the experience was the voices i remmember too.
I remember this film from my childhood, much like you guys do. I remember the little boy befriending some alien creature which then got killed my some tendrils in a cave roof or something ... anyway ... my mother has been trying to collect all the movies from my childhood (Don't ask why - I haven't and I can't figure it out myself as I now hate most of them!) and this is one we've both been after.
She's contacted the BBC only to be told that they did have it, but now they don't? Seems that the above comment about it being lost in the archives is true - shame as I'd love to see it again and see if I'm scared of the featureless winged people as much as I used to be !
Tempted to get a subtitled version, but I'd prefer dubbed and to not pay in excess of £100 for a DVD copy of it !
i too want to see the version of the film i remember
I wrote to :
BBC Commissioning Editor 3rd Floor 2 Entertain Ltd 33 Foley Street London W1W 7TL
who make the decision to rel;ease BBC archives. Got a proforma letter saying no current intention to release this on vide but if more people wrote, who knows...start a campaign !
Where did you get it from? I'm not bothered about the dub, but if there was a Region 2 DVD with French audio and English subtitles, I'd be very interested in getting hold of one.
This is incredible, I can't believe at last I have found a group of people who feel the same way as I do about this film!
It was a distant memory for me. I could remember watching it on TV sometime in the 80's, and remembered the lost boy, some of the perils he faced, the old guy and the twist ending. For some reason it really struck a cord with me and I can still remember the images, but up until now not the character names, or the name of the film. Thankfully I posted a message on the imdb I Need To Know board and was lead here. At last I know!!
Totally agree qtaran111 , and I followed the same path to find this film. I had it on the old Betamax video in the 80's but then we got VHS and the Betamax video and tapes went in the bin, and this film has had me thinking for many years, I remember seeing it when I was 4 or 5 and it too had struck a chord with me.
"If you want to be the victim of prejudice, all you have to be is a white, straight male."
Hello guys, I've been looking for information on this film for years - I saw it when i was about 4 and until now had no idea what it was called.
I'm pretty sure that this is the film i was talking about. I remember there being a scene where some large insects attack. I also remember one scene where the kid is eating something i remember as a giant strawberry. It's wierd how memorys fade and get confused over time - could someone please let me know if I'm actually thinking about this film? Cheers B
Similar story, my brother or sister had got my dad to record the dub back when it was show in the 80's (i'm only 19 and wasn't born when it was taped :P ), We wathced the tape for years, up until 94 I think. My big sister then taped over it or it was lost (she did this with lots of things and I can't remember there names or what happend in most of them :(. Any way I have a downlaoded copy with the english dub. I searched for the torrent on www.isohunt.com. Put in TIme Masters and then download the one called Time Masters (Les Maitres Dus Temps)(h264)(Dual Audio)(Xvid) or something along those lines and enjoy. It is from the frnech dvd with the english dub and french audio. Includes the subtitles as well. The film is synchronized but the dub shows it's age sadly with white nise, pops and hisses. But all I can say is Jaffar, Jaffar, come in Jaffar, this is Claude here.:P I'm on the lookout for a copy on VHS that must have been release as I beleive my dad copied it from there onto a home tape after renting it.
Very very similar situation with me. My mum taped it for me when I was about 4 or so (now 23), off BBC and it was on that tape for ages with a whole host of other kids programs - Moomins, Thomas the Tank, Rod Jane & Freddie! Then my little sister taped over it! Noooo!!! The torturing thing was still seeing the label on it and knowing every time I saw the tape that I couldn't watch it anymore. I'm just about to email BBC Shop about it, and I'm also going to hand-write a letter (apparently they get more attention that e-mail/word processed documents?) I'm urging everyone interested to do the same! The English language dubbed version needs a release! Come on BBC, pull your fingers out!
"Do I get a coconut?"
"If we get out of this, I'll buy you all the coconuts you can eat!"
I've been trying ages to find this film, had problems as did not know the title. I'm sure i've got on betamax video but no player to use and times when i've had a player the tapes get chewed up. All I could remember was the name Jaffar but whenever I was searching, I put the name Jaffa and was just getting links to items regarding Jaffa cakes, arrrrgh.
I really hope this happens!! & will add my pleas. In the meantime, I'm almost positively sure I have the BBC version on VHS (I'm gonna hav a really good look); I know the 1st bit is missing (I have a very vague memory of my Dad tryna find a blank tape in time!) but most of the amazing film is there, Lyn xx
I've sent my email to the BBC, this was the reply I received:

I wrote 3 letters to the commioning editor, seems BBC have outsourced that. Told no intention to release. Please do write to them as if they see lots of people writing in then just may be......."book them and they shall come"

For those who speak French, there is a digipack 2 DVD limited edition coming in Hungary on 12-th September. Audio French and Hungarian, subtitles Hungarian only. Price is cca. 27 $. As this edition is strictly limited, there is a one disc version on the way, same specs, priced probably at 11 $.
Here's a link to an online shop (sorry, Hungarian only)
You can now buy it in HMV using the link above. Have spent ages trying to find this film and luckily stumbled across the title on a thread elsewhere on the internet! Had been thinking it was called Star Seekers, Time Seekers or Sun Seekers for some reason (I did see it when I was 8 or 9 - that's my excuse!).
I actually work for the BBC (although not in any production linked areas) but will see if I can put ideas into someone's head to get it released or at least shown on tv again (don't hold your breath though!!!)
