There are 2 things I wish could have been with the film. 1, I wish there was a budget for higher production values; I think the story would be more effectively told without the distraction of the lower quality audio and visuals. 2, I wish there were better supporting actors. The students early in the film, and the psychic, were not very well-played, and that took me out of the story.

I really liked this film, and its depiction of how people can use their "artistic soul" as an excuse to be just as self-serving as they want to be, like the husband did with his philandering. The existential crisis as an excuse to be selfish is so spot on.

It's also really nice to see a film with black characters who are just people living their lives, and not as stereotypes like you see with Tyler Perry movies, or dealing with heavy issues of race and class, like Spike Lee. You don't see films that are just pure dramatic stories with all-black casts, where their blackness isn't part of the central story. I think films like Losing Ground are important in that respect, also in their depiction of black intellectuals, which you never see in Hollywood.
