Mrinal Sen 1923-2016 Age: 93

Filmmaker Mrinal Sen, who was considered to be one of the greatest ambassadors of Indian parallel cinema on the global stage passed away today at the age of 93. Like Satyajit Ray and Ritwik Ghatak, Sen's cinema is known for its artistic depiction of social reality.

Mrinal Sen made his first feature film, Raat Bhore, in 1955. The movie was a let-down. His next film, Neel Akasher Neechey (Under the Blue Sky), earned him local recognition, while his third film, Baishey Shravan, was his first film that gave him international exposure.

May his soul rest in peace.
