How does one get ahold of this movie...

I know its got to be terrible, but I just want to see how terrible. Does anyone know how to get a copy of this film on any format? Maybe its Plan 9 from Outer Space terrible, which would be awesome.

reply

Everyone I know who's seen it says it is indeed Plan 10 From Korea, but it was never released in the UK at all. I've heard it turns up on some of the more obscure US cable channels, but you'd have thought someone would have released it on video or DVD by now, even if only as a budget title.

I have this from the goodlife tv channel.

I got this movie on eBay for $40 (about £29 GBP). The version I got was the full 140 minute version, taped from a little-known American cable channel when it was screened years ago. It is bad (I've actually written a review of it for the imdb) just as everyone suggests, but not really Plan Nine From Outer Space standard. What is really surprising about it is that Laurence Olivier's performance is amateurish and embarrassing beyond your wildest expectations - no matter how hard you try to imagine it, you won't even come close in anticipating how utterly awful he acts in this film!!! The best place to find the film is eBay, but you'll wait a long time (I went on every day for eight months!) and you'll pay a hefty fee for it when it eventually comes up! Good luck with your hunting.

reply

Hiya,

I was wondering if there's any chance you could copy this for me and I can pay you the hefty fee reserved for ebay??
I'd be eternally grateful!

I have the movie on DVD. It's the full length version. If you notice on David Janssen's imdb profile, it says his scenes were deleted. Not so. This was his last movie and his scenes are all intact. Mine is from the Goodlife TV airing. If anyone has a different version, I'd like to trade for it.

There are two edits of the film, one with and one without those scenes.

Hello, tejas55. A clarification is in order regarding David Janssen's performance in Inchon. When the movie was released theatrically in the U.S. through MGM/UA in the fall of 1982, Janssen's scenes were cut. I know because I saw the film at a Mann Theatre (I think it was the National) in Westwood, California and the publicity material (posters, lobby cards, et al) does not include his credit. When the film was shown on GoodLife TV a number of years ago, his scenes were restored. Since the production was financed by the Rev. Moon's Unification Church, they hold the rights which is why you have the full length international version.

reply

When the film received wide release in 1981 in America, Janssen's scenes were deleted, along with Rex Reed's. The dealers who sell it on tape are obviously dealing in bootlegs, and while I'm not condemning that blanketly, just be careful who you deal with. Not all bootleg dealers are honest.

I've got to see this, even if it's a hot mess.

reply

Super Happy BOOTLEGS, it has never been released for sale so any copy you my have purchased is an ILLEGAL copy.

Any why would you want to give away $14 for this mess anyway?

My uncle was an extra for that movie and for Christmas, one of his co-workers got him a DVD of the movie. Tonight, he played it and pointed himself out. The movie was recorded off a channel called "Good Life". Goodluck.

Just saw it on DVD-not great but not terrible either.I'd say 2 stars out of 4,maybe 21/2.Olivier's makeup was good for a laugh!I'm also curious-which characters really existed? I knowe the MacAarthurs and the generals and admirals did.

The entire film, including the part about the "strategic lighthouse" is pure fiction. Only the big figures like MacArthur are historical; the rest are totally made up. They had to place a disclaimer at the beginning of the film to avoid lawsuits.

Only bootleg copies made from the one-time Goodlife Television Network channel airing are available. It was never released legitimately by UA/MGM (who had the American distribution rights) in either VCR or DVD format due to a lack of perceived demand. I've heard that you can buy it in DVD format on E-Bay or Amazon.com or download it off the internet.

reply

As it is not available, nor likely ever will be, there is a torrent for P2P networks of the DVD made from the American TV channel GoodLife TV Network. The picture quality is only decent, no more. The film is bad. Not MST3K bad, but the imdb description of noisy and absurd re-telling is very apt. Just bad film making all around.

Of course, if you opt for the torrent route, is it illegal if the film is N/A? I suppose if you get it via torrent with the idea if it ever were released that you'd delete and stop sharing the torrent and buy it that that would be OK morally, but who knows??

reply

Probably illegal, but no one will care.

reply

It's on youtube at least for now. Search it and you will see it.

reply

I was just looking this movie up on EBay. Doesn't appear to be available, I'll have to check it out on YouTube. I haven't seen this film in years, I appear to be one of the few people who actually saw it in the theater...
