The Unification Church Controversy

This film costed $46 million dollars to produce and was largely financed by Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church. There was a lot of controversy about that, particularly when the US Department of Defense supplied 1,500 soldiers as extras, but after finding out the film was funded by the church, withdrew from production and asked that the department's name be removed from the credits.

There was also the awkward fact that most of the cast and crew were paid in CASH, further fueling controversy about the church's involvement in the project. To make matters even more silly, Moon consulted the psychic Jeane Dixon to contact the spirit of General MacArthur to see how he felt about the making of the movie. MacArthur's spirit approved it.

The film only earned about $5 million at the box office, causing it to lose over $44 million. It's not known how MacArthur's spirit felt about the failure of the movie.

The more I study it, the greater the puzzle becomes.
