Exterior Shots

Many of the outside scenes were filmed in Sheepranch, CA and Mountain Ranch, CA. I grew up in Sheepranch, and this was one of the few times we actually had any excitement in town!

My mom was an extra in several scenes, and it's fun to watch the crowd scenes and pick out her smiling face.

Also, in the scene where the two folks run "nekkid" into their vehicle, the wide pan shot shows my CB antenna on top of our family house! Oh well, only I know that it's there...

OK, the movie wasn't great, I'll admit it. But it was fun seeing all the local scenes from where I grew up!

I completely understand and agree with the excitement of being so close to the action! The house used in the opening scene was my family'’s home! We actually moved out and lived in a bus on the lower portion of our property while they "moved in" and filmed. Located in Latrobe, CA, it was nothing but sheepherders’ country so they “planted” cotton, built the windmill (my first introduction to balsa wood) & created the storm shelter. We were ridiculously fortunate enough to not only meet the cast (I thought Kyle was so cute!) & crew, but watch during filming & even had several meals with them. I clearly remember Clint Eastwood as a very sweet & gentle man. Understandably, I was only 9 years old at the time and who could resist a little girl wearing a t-shirt that reads "It's hard to be humble when you're so cute!" Well not Clint, he was charming and polite, inviting me to sit with him during meals or breaks, and even offered me some of his ice cream once. I think I caught him off guard when I politely declined & informed him that I didn't like vanilla (ha-ha…, from the mouths of babes), but I’ll never forget his jovial smirk and the warmth behind his eyes. I’ve never uploaded pictures to this site but if I can find our pictures of them filming (& of Clint showing Kyle how to swing an axe!) I’'ll have to post them!
