Why did Billy Downes ask his wife to scream?

Why didn't he run while she screamed, but simply wait for Harry to shoot him?

Why on earth did the soldier shoot Harry? They revealed their secret observation post while two(?) platoons were on their way.

And one final question: Why did Harry try to kill Downes? He could have been arrested and convicted for murder. THAT would've been the right thing.

Screaming brought a crowd if quick enough could have provided cover -didnt though.
The soldiers were watching wouldnt have all info on whom Downes was so it would look like a paramilitary execution, they shot because they thought they were getting a murderer [which without moral judgement on who was the worse he was].Did Harry know the platoons were comming?
If he hadnt shot Downes would he have been convicted? possibilly not additionally extraction from the area and country would have to be sort.

The box, you opened it we came.

They may have thought Harry served one of the Orange paramilitary groups.

He probably just wanted more people to come and see what was going on. If he's going to get executed anyway, he wanted people to see it.

I think that he did try to run. But he knew that he wasn't going to get away, and he didn't want to get arrested.

Yeah, the soldiers thought that Harry was IRA, and was taking out one of his own. They were there watching Downes, and their man got killed while they were watching. They felt that they had to do something.

I think that Harry wanted to take Downes in. But it would've been a tough task, given the numbers against him. And Downes wasn't going to be taken alive.
