Can't Get Away With That 'Run Time'

More specifically in today's market. Unfortunately, Movies like this are considered boring and deecribed a chore to watch. For example, just look at the treatment "The Assassination of Jesse James" movie got for its run time. Ben Kingsley was born to play the role and Attenborough did an amazing Job.

Not with today's idiot cinema audiences.

I don't think that's true. There's plenty of films nowadays which run at more than 3 hours (just look at The Lord of the Ring films). So long as a film is telling a story and there aren't pointless scenes in it, I think it will always be interesting. To me this film never felt too long or boring in anyway, it always felt as though the story was progressing

The Lord of the Rings films were cut down for the cinema. The Director's cuts were only out on DVD and Blu Ray.

Could Gandhi or Lawrence of Arabia make it now? Maybe not.

The Age of Show Business, by Neil Postman.

The movie was too long, even for its time. It's why the assassination is shown first. Because it's so shocking, the movie makes you commit to it just so you can learn the circumstances behind his death, even though you're ready to check out during the third act. Without that scene, most people wouldn't have lasted by the second hour and Attenborough knew it.
