Terrific Poster

I remember seeing this movie when I was 12 or 13 when it was released by the late, great Paragon Video Productions, who also introduced me to DOCTOR BUTCHER M.D., THE GATES OF HELL, BOARDINGHOUSE, JUST BEFORE DAWN and plenty of other horror/exploitation classics.

I haven't seen it since then, but I don't recall it being particularly good. However, it's got one of the best horror movie posters I've ever seen. Very creepy, very atmospheric, very intriguing... everything movies AREN'T these days.

Exactly...I have two one sheet posters of this. One is Canadian under the title "Cries in the Night" which I think represents the film better. The TV spot I remember as a child had simply narration about them not being able to show any "shocking" and "horrifying" scenes from the film while the camera pans over the poster art. Good stuff and rather charming film.

I've seen the one on IMDB with a hand reaching up a gravestone with a house on a hill in the background. It's very good and it's everything you described. It's using pretty basic imagery, too. I don't think it's anything highly original but it is good. It is classic horror/Halloween imagery implemented very well.

Communism was just a red herring.

It is a very spooky poster. Especially with the figures standing stock still either side of the pathway leading up to the house as well.

Dear squeezebox: Paragon was Da Bomb. Or something like that. Those silly DVD's being sold of FUNERAL HOME now were taken from an old Paragon videocassette. Funny.

I think I'll keep my Paragon of FUNERAL HOME. Along with JUST BEFORE DAWN, BOARDING HOUSE (Gawd Almighty is this alleged "movie" dreadful), THE GATES OF HELL and DOCTOR BUTCHER, M.D.

How could anyone dislike Paragon Video Productions? It would be un-American!!!

Hello, CG-Pal!

Un-American, or un-Canadian? Oh well, Canadians are Americans anyway, aren't they?

Not only are those amazing titles (if not great films), consider the trailers on the Paragon VHS before "Funeral Home":
"The Witching" (starring Orson Welles)
"Boarding House"
"For Your Love Only" (starring Nastassja Kinski, and why is this not in her filmography?)
"Molly and Lawless John" (Sam Elliott and Very Miles)
"One-Armed Executioner"
"Gates of Hell"
"Hotwire"

I got my 99 cents worth before the movie even started!

In addition...my one sheet poster of the USA theatrical release is the same art as the Paragon VHS. However - the Paragon VHS is FAR SUPERIOR in that the colors of the art are magnificent! The original one sheet poster, although the same art, has no color and looks more like a pencil drawing. The art is cool, though. I wish it were as striking as the USA VHS box art with those great colors.
