Had this been rated today...

Would it still be an R? I think it could probably pass for a PG-13.

I'd give it an Nc-17 but that's just me.

Because of the sex scene or the gore or both?

It should still be R. I don't think children should see certain things-- and I don't trust parents to only bring their 14+ yr olds. Technically, all these films should be rated NC-17, since it's meant for only adults, whether the producer doesn't earn as much revenue or not.

Many of these films outside of the US, are restricted to audiences over 15, 16 or 18 only, depending on which country one lives. Yes, an age restriction can affect box office; but doing what is in the best interests of younger impressionable people is more important. However, once they are available online streaming or dvd, one can't always trust parents or older siblings to be responsible with what their children watch, or if they can handle it. Some kids are more sensitive than others.

Why do you think it would pass for a PG-13 today? What violent scenes are you talking about that would not make it 'R'? These films equate sex with violence and this one had several nasty deaths with meat cleavers, knitting needles, machete deaths with blood, harpoon, pitchfork, axe etc. There is nothing in this film that is designed for PG-13 and it is more graphic than Part 2. Get your head out of the clouds.

I agree. I don't know what the TC is thinking. This would still be rated R. Friday the 13th though has never been for really little kids so it would never be PG-13.

If you cut the nudity from 7, that one actually is pretty PG-13

reply

Yes, they did butcher part 7 horrendously and what was left in, undermined it's raison d'être for this series of films. They still had some violent kills; but with quick cutaways and the mind had to fill in the gaps. Somebody on the MPAA must've had serious contempt issues around this time regarding horror\slasher films.

It's an 18 here in the UK. I think a 15 would be acceptable but no lower than that.
