Bionic Convict

Rufus Dawes (Colin Friels), is sort of antipodean version of Edmond Dantes, a serial victim of legalised thuggery who suffers a series of miscarriages of justice. The small, scrawny Dawes is subjected to countless floggings with a cat-of-nine-tails & repeated beatings, but keeps bouncing back for more - such amazing recuperative powers, not to mention a slightly masochistic proclivity on his part! Like Dantes he is driven by an unflagging resilience to get back home & square accounts. Set in colonial Van Diemen's Land but filmed in South Australia with a headline cast of US & British film notables.
