Environment?

I saw this film at a film festival today. Pardon, my ignorance about how the movie was shoot, which I came to know after watching the movie. I am just curious to know, that director flattened a hill, caused environmental damage to satisfy his ego. If anybody can throw light to the subject i will be grateful.
