What a STINKER! (recollections as a kid when I saw FF in '82)

I remember seeing this movie as a kid, and going home with all my friends we kept saying "That was a piece of *beep*

We all seriously just flat out hated this BORING film. It took over an hour plus before Clint even got into the frickin' plane.

I just remember the group I was with
(we were all 8-12 years old) just hated this piece of crap.

Just watched it again (now as a "mature" adult)
and hoping that I would catch on things I may of missed as a kid.

Nope. The endless scenes of "Show me your passport" was like
being trapped in a room packed full of FARTS.

Clint really did make 'trashy' movies back then, it's good that he caught on
as a filmmaker so by the time he made "Unforgiven" he dropped a lot
of the idiotic implausible situations.

Also, the Vietnam flashbacks was just flat out badly done.

I know it was supposed to add tension..but why would the U.S. government
send an obviously deranged man on such of a deadly....

forget it.

You just said it all, man. I never watched this film before. Actually relatively recently Mr. Eastwood has become one of my favorite directors (Basically since I saw 'Mystic River' although I loved Unforgiven). Therefore I am just discovering his earlier films (as director). Some of them are good (Pale Rider, Bird), some of them are decent (High Plains Drifter, Play Misty for Me) but a few ones are nearly unwatchable (Firefox, Sudden Impact, Absolute Power).

The good news is that unlike most filmmakers, Clint is getting better with each project, while other directors are/were walking in the opposite direction (Spielberg, the late Hitchcock, Lynch, George Lucas).

For a guy who rates 'The Watchman' as your top picks for 2009 it seems that your tastes in movies have not change much since you were a kid.

Maybe your problem was that you were too young to understand the film and what it was about.

If you were only 8-12 years old then maybe you were too young. I couldn't have watched this either at that age. It isn't made for elementary schoolers.

I thought this was a great film, even if the plot was a little far-fetched. There was plenty of suspense and intrigue. There was plenty happening all the way through. It just wasn't always car chases and knife fights.

Why not? Don't you want people to express their opinions too? I thought the idea of these threads was to get some sort of discussion going. Oh wait - perhaps you don't want to be flamed for your opinion.

After all has been said and done, more has usually been said than done...

Maybe not as mature as you would think.

The hangar scene SFX were terrible, the jet engines looked more like propane heaters strapped to a wooden model.
If you're gonna fake jet engines at least make proper fakes and don't use a hardware store solution.
