Guilty Pleasure: I Blame HBO

There used to be a joke when I was a kid:

HBO stood for,'Hey Beastmaster's On!' :D

People forget that HBO used to run the same damned b-ish movies over and over and over and over. And over.

Beastmaster was one. Several John Carpenter movies. And Firefox.

So, although I -know- down deep it's not very good, I have a soft spot in my heart for this thing. I probably have half the dialogue down just by osmosis.

Clint Eastwood's 'Russian' is certainly one of the most terrible accents in the history of accents (although Sean Connery in HFRO still takes the cake.) It's just filled with Reagan-era hooie. The special FX were kinda silly...even for back then. And finally, the music is just silly... from the goofy synths to show them nasty Russkies which magically turns into a completely cliche orchestra fanfare the moment Clint steals the plane.

It's a -5-. But it has a certain fun factor.

Meh, it was a time-killer, but I never liked it much.

Two other movies that HBO loved to run all the time in that era:

"WarGames"
and
"The Boogens"

War Games. Yeah... ULTRA heavy rotation. :D

Why? I came into this game for the action, the excitement... Listen, kid, we're all in it together.

As I recall, HBO used to play Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom all the time.

Is that the one where they eat monkey brains?
