Gant's relationship with the sub commander

Did it seem to anyone else that Gant and the sub commander knew one another? Their interaction was awfully familiar. What clinched it for me is when Gant is getting ready to take off and the sub commander says "Now get outta here a bum.". I know it could just be the sort of shared comradery men have in situations like that, but that parting shot just felt out of place for two men who just met five minutes prior.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing. They probably did know each other. It may have been through the military or Vietnam. But the sub commander was Navy and Clint was Air Force so I don't know how lol

Yeah I thought the same thing also

Many times there are Intra-Military briefings, seminars, meetings, planning sessions and outright training that involve senior military officers. The two of them might very well have been involved in something like that wherein familiarity wouldn't have been overlooked.

I was in the Navy and whenever the chance to touch bases with an Air Force or Army guy I would certainly familiarize myself with them. Don't even mention the Marines. I've known quite a few of them (Somalia) that I still have contact with. Never far enough to feel free enough to call one of them a "bum" but the Military familiarity is still there.

I noticed that too. It did seem like they knew each other. They Were likely friends in real life cuz the actor who played the sub captain was also in another Eastwood film sev yrs later. He played the police captain in the 5th Dirty Harry film - The Dead Pool.
