Firefox Remake

Why not make a remake of this

I'd support it under the condition that they also make Firefox Down.

what i heard way back when, is that clint eastwood didn't like the movie and bought the film rights for the novel as well as for the sequel, so they would never been remade.

I find that a little hard to believe. I know that after working on Firefox Clint said that he "would never do a special effects movie again". The majority of the film Firefox, like the book, wasn't all about the special effects in the flying scenes, but was mostly a tense suspenseful espionage story. So while Clint was definitely un-enthused by the special effects in the movie, I doubt he holds it against the rest of the work done in the film. And seeing how the book Firefox Down has WAY WAY less flying scenes than the first had, (it's pretty much the first chapter, then no flying until literally the last few pages), I don't see any reason Clint would actively NOT make the sequel based on his "special effects" comments.

As far as I know when you buy the film rights to a particular book you have a specified period in which to make the film. If it hasn't been made at the end of that contract then those rights expire and someone else can buy the film rights to it.

So whether what you say is the case, unless Clint paid hundreds of millions of dollars to Craig Thomas then the rights would have reverted back to Thomas by now.

i just got reminded of this film

there is a great anime/manga called sky crawlers

that i recommend for anyone who wants a jet based film to watch

i too agree that a semi futuristic jet based film should be made

as much as i hate reboots to good films that need it

this is a film/concept that would benefit

I was thinking the same thing tonight as I watched the movie.

Overall, it's an amazing film (I believe) and a great example of a cold war era spy story.

The only thing that's really needed is some updated CGI for the ending flight sequences, and I think it would be an epic film for decades to come.

I wonder if there's a way to get any of the plate footage of the sky and sea/ice backdrops... sounds like a fun project to get involved in.

LISTEN! ... Do you smell something?

With all the remakes Hollywood keeps throwing out there that aren't necessary, you'd think they'd give this one a shot. I'd enjoy seeing a more realistic version of this, no question.

Would it be done as a period piece? Cause if it is set today, then who would be the ones designing the plane?

I don't think it's one of those movies that translates/updates well.

I swear, if I ever had my way, I'd really just clean the film up, update the ending flight sequences, keep everything else, and maybe add a Hunt For Red October-style intro about how it was a rumored operation at the turn of the 1980s, and that any truth to the mission was denied.

I loved almost every part of this film, and still do. One of my favorite, if not THE favorite spy movie of all time for me. The only thing that really doesn't stand up today is the parts shot in the sky in the third act. It could probably use an updated shot as the MiG is leaving the runway (seen from the guy's perspective on the ground as he's being hunted), and maybe one or two shots on the ice pack. Everything else is still gold, IMHO.

Why does it need to be remade?
