No Parents

is this why there's so much toking, sex acts, and abortion? There are no parents. I just saw the mother think she's tucking her daughter in.

You think the kids all lived on their own?

You mean the parents are never around? Yes, that's probably the problem. The mom is seen once tucking Stacy into bed, but other than that they are MIA. Thing is, at this point, the parents shouldn't have to be around too much as long as they care enough about their child. Nowadays parents don't care and that's why so there are so many brats.

Stacy's mom obviously cared enough, although Stacy is too old to be tucked in. None of what happens in this movie is any worse than what happens today. This is the "Teen Mom" generation after all.

Well if the kids are at school and working after school until closing, when would they see their parents for elongated periods of time? Even so, not showing their folks emphasizes the idea that these teens are dealing with issues on their own or with the help of peers. It’s an interesting and effective creative decision.

Some kids do mention their parents a lot. Spiccoli and the Hamiltons both mention their parents multiple times.

Teenagers, and even younger children, were not under continuous parental surveillance back then, the way they are now.
