His best dramatic film role was in 'At Close Range'. Very underrated movie.

its the only thing I liked him in the most..

reply

At Close Range so frggin' intense...

reply

Tied with Bad Boys. At Close Range is third.

reply

Naw, he still has way better ones, as mentioned above.

reply

Will Smith was great in that movie.

Penn was much more fun back then, before he became a total Hollywood self-righteous tool, full of his own importance.

This ^^^^^

"Penn was much more fun back then, before he became a total Hollywood self-righteous tool, full of his own importance."

At some point, he got WAY to serious about his "craft", to the point of becoming a stuffy, pretentious, judgemental db, with an over-inflated sense of self-importance.

The epitome being displayed with his complete lack of a sense of humor when Chris Rock hosted the Oscars and made that Jude Law joke.

Sean Penn isn't even a great actor. He thinks the height of acting means being intense, and affecting a southern, hillbilly accent. Combining the two seems to be his forte. When really.....a gifted actor can do anything, including comedy...and can make people laugh. ANYONE can do ultra intense. Not many can carry off multiple genres, and make it look easy.

Mel Gibson can. And, Mel doesn't take himself too seriously. Sean....watch Mel's work and how he does interviews.....always fun and self-effacing......and take some notes.
