The tree raping scene was too much.

I liked this movie but hated that tree raping scene. I am sorry but I don't get what Sam Raimi was thinking writing that scene much less filming it. My main problem is it went too far. It actually shows the tree sticking some of its small branches up her front private part. That was too unsettling. What in God's name?

Here it is, that one person who is OK with all the most terrible and brutal depictions violence in horrors, but god forbid there's a rape scene, that's just too much, right?

There shouldn't be such thing as "too far" in R-rated movies.

That was too unsettling.

That was the point, it was a horror film. Its supposed to scary, unsettling, creepy..so on and so forth...you validated its presence in the film with this one sentence.

reply

Well, if it makes you feel any better Raimi claims he regretted it and omitted it from ED2.

reply

If it's any consolation, tree rape is better than human rape.

reply

Yeah, they never have a problem getting wood

reply

Ha ha very good.

There is no way that would have been put ithat into a movie today. Hollywood wouldn't even show it to test audiences in pre-screening.

Made before the term "trigger-warning"was invented.

yea movies suck ass now

OP is factually incorrect anyway. You only see the tree going up her dress, not actually entering her.

I was thinking that, I don't remember seeing it 'sticking some of its small branches up her front private part'!!!

It's an iconic scene though. It's one of the first things I think of when I think about The Evil Dead (1981).

For the record, it's a very low budget splatter film from 1981. Morals be damned. I do believe Raimi is on record saying it was a mistake to shoot it, but it was a different time and the crew were all in their early 20s. Raimi was only 22 when this was released so as you can imagine they were still a bit immature and trying to make an impact.

They even used a real shotgun to shoot out a window with real glass in it. Ahhhh, the good old days of movie making.

!!!!!!!Spoilers Below!!!!!!!!

It made for one heck of a joke payoff later when in the series Ash Vs Evil Dead Ash's sister shows up in season 2 and is a deadite, when Ash says she isnt suppose to be here, she goes full deadite and proclaims "Well then why dont you make like a Tree and FUCK ME"!

It was evil and I guess that was the point.
