Best "straight" horror movie I've ever seen.

Some movies like Rosemary's Baby and Invasion of the Body Snatchers still scared me a couple days after, but this was the perfect model for how horror should be done.

Short run time was key.

Elements of comedy.

Genuine creepiness.

Brief but not excessive nudity.

Awesome end credits.

Ending keeps sequel possibility.

Always been told this was a classic, glad I finally found the time see this.

I agree that it's a remarkable straight horror film and that's all the more remarkable considering that the sequel is one of the greatest true horror/comedies ever made and that the following sequel is one of the greatest straight comedies ever made, yet they don't feel out of place with each other.

That said, I also agree with the other poster that elements of comedy isn't something I'd put on a checklist of things you need in a straight horror film.

Even though this movie is enjoyed by many as camp, both Bruce and Sam have stated many times that anything perceived as comedy in this was unintentional. They set out to do their best to make a straight horror film and because they were amateurs some bad acting has been enjoyed as comedy by some. Purely unintended.

Now, if you are talking about the black humor in some of the violence (like the ending or the blood in the film projector—if I am remembering that part correctly), I'm with you.
