Did I miss something or....

Spoiler for the 10/16/2016 episode of "Ash VS The Evil Dead"...

Did I miss something or was the reveal that Cheryl is Ash's sister some retcon they just came up with?

reply

lol no this was established in the original movie

reply

It was Evil Cheryl to reveal that Cheryl was Ash's sister... it occurred in "The Evil Dead".

I guess I haven't seen the first movie in awhile and forgot. Granted my memory of the first movie is pretty sketchy but I didn't recall anything about that. Guess I need to watch it again. :)

It is an intresting notion and it does explain a lot. I like it.

Thank you Libra:

Well, this is my NEW personal canon: just mine.
It's a theory.
It's not a gospel.
It's not canon.

Hopefully you'll like it the same way I like it.

Pay close attention to the scene in which possessed Cheryl is grabbing Ash through the cellar door, she says "It's your sister Cheryl!" Also, she's the only one who calls him Ashleigh, and talks to him the most (asking him to drive her to town, etc.).

Yeah, it's been ages since I've seen the original so I guess I just forgot. :) I need to track it down as I already have the second one and Army of Darkness on blu ray. :)

reply

Yeah man you need to own all three. 

Don't I know it. I haven't really taken the time to look and just happened on the other two by chance. I would like to get the first one and the first season of the series on blu ray.

I'm mixed about the remake. I saw it once a long time ago. It seemed okay but I don't know, maybe if the price is right, just to have everything. :)

reply

Yeah I still need to get the first season of the TV series as well now that you mention it. And I got the remake too just to have them all but I hardly ever watch it. Best part was the post credits scene.

Oh yeah that is good. I seem to recall and off hand remark that they were, somehow, going to reference the remake in the series but I only heard it once, ages ago.

I also heard they couldn't make any reference to "Army of Darkness" but the last episode showed a bit of Ash landing in the past.

reply

I hope they don't reference the remake unless it's a subtle jab at it or something. It wouldn't work in the same universe cause it was a different book and different types of possessions.

And I think they do have the rights to reference Army of Darkness now, I mean Ash had to get back to his own time somehow and without AoD being canon, it makes no sense. They should explain how his car is back to normal after being transformed into that elaborate weapon. And as for it showing him landing in the past, that happened in Evil Dead II as well.

Oh yeah, I can't see trying to connect them and when I heard that I was like "what?".

I remember hearing, when the series started, that they couldn't directly reference "Army of Darkness" which is why Ash wasn't working at S-Mart and why all he's said was "I went away for awhile". Yeah the scene was in "Evil Dead 2" so I guess that get a pass.

I hope they do have the rights to "Army of Darkness" so they can be more direct in future. :)

reply

Yeah, same here. And it's kind of good it happened this way, like they saved the AoD references for later so we have something else to look forward to.

Oh yeah and it's not like they have to make then in the first place. It should be organic.

I wouldn't actually expect Ash to still be working at S-Mart after all this time, although the idea that he's in the same dead end job and even in the position where he's being bossed around by guys younger than him fits.

I would think it would be very much in his character to keep quitting his retail jobs, probably with ideas to progress beyond that, then falling on his ass and ending up right back at the same type of job elsewhere.

Still, it would be funny if someone brought up S-Mart and he said something like "don't mention those ass wipes to me" or something. :)

I also wouldn't expect him to go around talking about his time travel experience exactly but I could see someone mentioning time travel and him saying "been there, done that" or something. :) That or maybe have a thing where he talked about it when he first got back but ending up a psych ward so he had to stop talking about it to get out.
