As a stand alone movie, does Ash die at the end?

THE WHOLE WORLD?! Jesus, I thought this was an isolated incident. That it kind of wears off. That a few dozen people might die in these demon incidents.

At the end of "The Evil Dead", the world was safe anyway... because the Book was gone forever.

Basically, it's a ritual. The Kandarian Demon must possess ALL people who "awoke" it at a given time and THEN read from the Book of the Dead. The Book of the Dead can make the Kandarian Demon more powerful. Massively powerful.

The archeologist and his wife. The wife was possessed by the Kandarian Demon BUT the archeologist managed to escape from the cabin and he eventually got killed in a car incident (the car you can see at the very beginning of the movie). Once the archeologist got killed, the Kandarian Demon could not use him anymore. His soul was gone forever.

And it went on "sleep mode" again. For years. Until... the events of "The Evil Dead".

When Ashley and his friends "awoke" it, the Kandarian Demon had a new chance to possess everyone and use the very last Deadite as "vessel" to read from the Book of the Dead.

ANYWAY, the Book went burnt, so the possession of Ash was just a revenge of some sort against the boy. He will spend the rest of his (brief) life as a Deadite wandering in the woods.
