The Kandarian Demon steering the Oldsmobile at the beginning: why?

I think this is one of the biggest mysteries of the Evil Dead saga.
Why did the Kandarian Demon ever save the guys? To let them slip in the cabin and find the Book of the Dead?
Curiously enough, the Kandarian Demon MAYBE wanted to sleep, because that's what Evil Cheryl said to the guys. Or "he"/she was lying, of course.

Anyway, the Kandarian Demon steered the Oldsmobile at the beginning and made them avoid a crash with the truck. It's undeniable.

The actual fact is either the demon steered them towards the truck or was just watching. Scotty definitely avoid the crash.

The Demon did not steer them towards the truck. Rewatch the movie, stupid.
