How did the guys manage to rent the cabin?

Either "Evil Dead II" and "Ash vs Evil Dead" confirm that the cabin belonged to Professor Raymond Knowby, thus it was one private propriety... and Knowby disappeared one week before the guys would arrive - as stated by Annie Knowby.

I guess the guys sneaked in, and someone informed them on where to find the keys? The ED2 recap also seems to suggest that.
