Nicholas Roeg || A Fool In Paradise

A great film is waiting to be made, somehow it was given to Nicholas Roeg. In m yview he is the one who destroys this film. It is really so poorly done. yet, as many have noted, the cast in so impressive. the story about nothing is something which some directors have done really well. I found myself intrigued by the cast. watching Teressa Rusell in a size 4 or 5 dress. Rudger Hower actually sober and trying to be an actor. And gene Hackman? How these people all conspired to make such a boring Turkey is a great mystery, worthy itself of yet another movie about nothing. Why this talented cast, including an odd turn by a very young Mickey Rourke, could have conspired to make such a rambling, self-indulgent farce like this is just hard to figure out. the cast is radiant with life and beauty. They all look so ready for life. In the end, it seems to me the character, or lack of it, of the director that drives the actors performances. What this director was trying to do is lost, and worse than that, I don't even care. The one abiding truth I understand from this film is that great wealth and privilege destroys most men's souls. Few of the rich are in fact worthy of the privilege. The emptiness of the rich is well measured here.
