eureka in theatre

was eureka ever released with a national release to movie theatres?

reply

It was given a very scant release.

In the U.S. the studio that made it, MGM/UA sat it on the shelf and refused to release it.

It got a one screen release in the mid 1980s in New York I think.

I saw it in the independent arts cinema in Lancaster in 1985, but due to its violent content, I recall it was not given national release, but had a limited release, on the decision of Nicholas Roeg, who made it a requirement that he accompanied the film and gave an introductory lecture. I still remember the death scene was truly shocking
