Why Mickey Rourke is in it??? =/

Eureka isn't a bad movie at all,but the character of MR isn't for him...In 1984 when this film cames out Mickey Rourke was a promising star with such amazing performances in Body Heat,Diner or Rumble Fish, three STRONG supporting roles. In Eureka his character is very weak one...i think is the worst choice he made in his career (ok,talking about the 80's only).I only have this movie because of him,i'm a huge fan and i have all his filmography on VHS and DVD,but Aurelio D'Amato is by FAR his worst role.
However the cast is good (Hackman/Hauer/Russell/Rourke/Pesci),but something misses to make Eureka a watchable movie.

I believe Eureka was actually shot in 1982. Some of those movies you mention are after that or possibly were just being released.

As for Eureka being watchable, well it is a Nic Roeg movie. All his movies are hard to watch at some levels yet almost always fascinating at the same time. I really like all of his movies yet they are not pretty and can be very difficult to sit through. I would never recommend one of his films to the average joe

I thought the scene with him and Hackman in the rain was beautiful.

I though Rourke was pretty good! As for the film, I am dissapointed, I like most of Roeg's other films, but this wasn't quite "up there".
Also, one of the reasons I liked Rourke's role so much, not only becuase I'm such a fan of him, but it was a different kind of character for him.

Eureka was shot around 1981/1982. It was shelved by UA for a couple of years... during which time Rourke probably shot and completed other features that came out within that time.

Eureka is not a film for the typical moviegoer. Roeg is an acquired taste, but once acquired, his films are a cinematic joy and Eureka is among his best work.

Because Mickey admired hackman, Hauer and Pesci... Wouldnt you do it to work with greats?

reply

It's so he can look back 33 years later and see how pretty he USED to be.

Why not? Probably to work with Gene Hackman
