Movie good, movie soundtrack very bad!
Saw this movie for the 1st time in a "very" long time and the plot still holds up. In fact everything about this movie holds up with the notable exception of the movie's music. Yes 1982 was a long time ago and this movie is a period piece in that it premiered just before Miami Vice came out. What's the connection you ask? Well how about a huge overabundance of "pop" synthesizer music throughout the film. Now I could understand (tolerate) some use of this form of music , especially when the the movie scenes became suspenseful in nature but the synthesizer music is present "all" the time. In fact after awhile it morphed from being annoying to cheesy in nature. This in turn helped drag an otherwise entertaining movie down along with the dated music that permeated the entire film.
I do agree this film could be a "ripe" candidate for a remake but with the exception of the theme music. Leave the Miami Vice synthesizers music back in the 80's where it belongs. I did notice that the person in charge of the music score was Gary Wright. I wonder if this would be the same Gary Wright who wrote the 70's mega hit "Dream Weaver" back in 1975? Anybody care to research this and get back to me?
