That seems a little unfair...if only for the sake of posterity and historical comparison it would seem like that version would be worth preserving.

Glad I bought it back in '02 as it might be worth something someday, but I despised the CGI tweaking and refuse to watch the recut edition. Glad Spielberg came to his senses and realized he was fiddling with people's fond memories of the film from its original run. If only he could have talked George Lucas into forgetting about his lamentable "special editions"!

To me it's essentially the same movie ... CGI walkie talkies or not. I do miss Drew's added line about "Why would Elliot go into the forest?" Great stuff.
