Could Billy be gay?

He's totally platonic best friends with that beautiful girl for eons, talking endlessly. They have just one (apparently unsatisfactory) sexual encounter after six years, and none thereafter. And when he then tries to propose because she's pregnant, she tells him she thinks he's confusing friendship with a woman for love. I also got a slightly strange vibe later, when one of his guy buddies is at the bar with him, draping an arm around Billy's shoulders while demonstrating trying to clumsily cop a feel on a girl. Did anybody else get a similar impression?
