For years I have always loved the strip bar piano scene...

...and I know Billy is the center of the scene, and I think, along with a few other scenes or comments (Boogie choosing 'Presley' over Mathis or Sinatra), we're supposed to see the impact that rock and roll (and music in general) has had on these guys.

And I know people like to dump on Guttenberg, and I'm not saying he's any great shakes as an actor (even if I loved him in this), but the dance he does with the stripper is priceless! The stiff legs and the arm movements, his confidence...love the whole scene!

Charges Of Buggery,I'm surprised no one supported you with that scene so far except for me but I agree. It was impulsive, emotional, upbeat and gave us a new lease on the life of that movie! The intentionally comic dancing, the woman dancer joining in,the look on Guttenberg's face was beyond words! All I can say was that I was smiling more than he did! Great addition to an already great film.I think you have to be older to appreciate that time in the States. The technology,music,cars,everything...

I was born in 1969, but as a kid, and into my teenaged years, I had a fascination-bordering-on-obsession with the '50s (and early '60s) - all the things you said, technology etc, the clothes, cars (the shape and size of those cars, I still love it!), the music (early rock n roll), the seeming innocence...

Diner is one of a bunch of films/shows I loved back in the early-mid 80s when I was working thru my obsession - The Wanderers, Happy Days, Mischief (very underrated, insofar as the 50s details go, IMO), Hollywood Knights, American Hot Wax, etc. Diner is one of the best though.
