Not really well made

Ok, I saw it years ago and just watched it again and I'm lost.

Why was the killer going after the kid? What could the kid be a witness to? He didn't see anything. He even gave the medallion to the sheriff and the sheriff gave it back to the killer. I like a lot of bad movies but this one is just too weak. They didn't even try. Adding some creepy music does not make a creepy flick. Sometimes films are better left in our memories from childhood.
