An interesting failure

i enjoyed the actors and appreciated the efforts to splice in the bits of old film noir characters. I've certainly watched my share of them! But it was disappointing how un-funny the supposedly humorous bits were. Frankly, Steve Martin is a good enough actor that those stupid attempts at humor were unnecessary (though of course the fans back then were sitting eagerly waiting for more guffaws from the wild and crazy guy). The storyline was tedious and scenes were repetitious. Nice try, but it was a one viewing movie.

I've seen it three times now, and I'm still waiting for that one view that yer talking about. What a great movie! :)

I can watch it about once a decade. It's a fun spoof of 1940s crime dramas, with clever interpolation of several of the actors who starred in the originals. Sure, that's a gimmick, but it's entertaining, especially if you're a film noir aficionado. I think it would have been better if they had left out a few of the over-the-top silly gags, like sucking the bullet out and adjusting her breasts, but overall the movie is a success.
