SkekZok, The Ritual Master, was the bomb Skeksi

He had those light, beady, mean eyes. He had stately dress robes and a commanding presence. Although he was SkekUng's right hand man, he didn't cower to him as much as the others. When they were eating, he bitchily said, "It seems the gelfling has escaped."

The only time when he got treated like a little bitch by the SkekUng was when his reminder that they were sworn kill gelfling instead of draining their essence was ignored.

In my opinion, he should have taken the treasurer's advice and been the new emperor. If so, the prophecy would have had a better chance of not coming true and Skeksis would rule forever. HELL YES!!!

I love the novel...I thnik Skek-Zok would be afraid to loose the challenge and be expelled, because Skek-Ung was stronger than anyone else...

The novel explains SkekZok and SkekUng's dynamic. SkekZok was actually one of the condenders for the throne at first, but backed out to wait for a future opportunity, and this was before the challenge Trial By Stone. SkekZok waited until SkekSil was removed from the castle, and waited 'in the wings' waiting for opportunities to undermine SkekUng. He was derisive to SkekUng in the banquet scene, and then saw an opportunity to one-up the emperor by standing up and taking command of the situation, barking questions to Augra and then calling the Crystal Bats. He tried to have Kira killed in the end, but SkekUng overruled him.

The High Priest was definitely a contender for the throne and wanted it, but he was quite subtle about it.

Actually, his name is "SkekZok", not "SkekZot".
I think he didn't become emperor because he wasn't aggressive enough. Chamberlain (SkekSil), although he was not as aggressive, was craftier, so he just took advantage of the opportunity. SkekUng only won by brute force, and he was definitely aggressive enough.

"Wings?...I don't have wings!?"
"Of course not. You're a boy."
