It may be callous, at the time, but remember they were the only two (Jen and Kira) that were trying to *save* the world.. They were being attacked by the Garthim, the same that had taken her family (can you say trauma?) and trying to rescue the villagers that were Kira's extended, adoptive, family... so, a bit of a tense moment for anyone, right?
It doesn't show it on screen, but with the way she was so
close to Nature, and the animals in it... do you really think she didn't grieve later?
I guess we can think that she did, but there's no indication of it. Even as they parachuted down that moat/canyon or whatever you want to call it, she seems oblivious to the sacrifice that the animals made.
Again, just me.
I just assumed they came back to life when the Urskeks were revived. All the plants immediately came back to life.
"Well...I've seen enough. Come on Charlie, we're going home."
