"I love this stuff, just look at the quality of that picture harry"

Why kill 1 to save a thousand, when you can kill a thousand and 1?.

reply

I thought he played a great, evil prick.

“I'll shootcha dead!!!”

------

Wait a minute... who am I here?

reply

Here he is the anti-Frank Drebin. He did a good job, although I would've cut Harry's balls off first.

reply

Nielsen gets the best final line EVER.

"I CAN HOLD MY BREATH...FOR A LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG TIME!!!"

reply

Hey, he's actually quite good in non-comedy. Go watch "Forbidden Planet" .

reply

He's great in "The Posedon Adventure" as well. I actually feel that Leslie Neilsen sold himself short by resorting to slap-stick Naked Gun type movies in the remainder of his career. He is great in serious roles

reply

I don't think he sold himself short. He just gained a larger fan base with comedy. He was great in Creepshow, giving quite a disturbing performance as a devil may care psychopath. It's a shame he didn't play more roles like that after that.

reply

Apparently he was great in the drama Nuts with Barbara Streisand.

reply

He didn't sell himself short. He was playing against type. Especially in Airplane. It was precisely because he had always played serious roles that he broke through and was incredibly funny.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

reply

yeah, he was very good in this

reply

He is one versatile actor - from Creepshow ( horror ) to Airplane ( comedy ) and he does it all so very well . Check out his profile ----- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000558/ ----- One of the best in Canadian actors too . Thanks SevenKal-ElGuiry for this great subject post .

Leslie Nielsen suffers from the Russell Johnson Sydrome. Just saying the name, most have no idea who that is, but if I say, "The Professor from "Gilligan's Island", suddenly the name is very familiar.

But suffered the same fates, broke into Hollywood playing heavies, and then landed an iconic comedic role that completely reversed their image and hindered them in ever getting comedic roles again. An actor that managed to avoid that curse is Herbert Lom, the scene-stealing Dreyfus from "The Pink Panther" films. Despite the role, Lom has been able to continue playing villains.

It's nice to see Nielsen in this, he's my favorite character out of the stories, and I consider "Something to Tide you Over" the best of the story antholigies, with "Father's Day" and "The Crate" not far behind. I like E.G Marshall but his story I saw when I wa young and it left me creepy. King's work was also good but probably my least favorite. I certainly sympathized with the character, but it didn't pull me in like the dynamic between Nielsen and Ted Danson. The acting of Ed Harris, Fritz Weaver, Hal Holbrook and Adrienne Barbeau helped the other stories but Leslie, in my mind, is the top. He's so nicely diabolical that it's a treat.

I love to love my Lisa.

Jim Carey has had the opposite fate, trying to be taken seriously as a serious dramatic actor.

reply

Too bad flat screens and Blu-ray weren't around then, Richard would have been so entranced with the picture quality that he would have forgot all about killing Harry and Rebecca lol.

If you expect the unexpected doesn't the unexpected then become the expected?

Check out a segment of Rod Serling's Night Gallery called 'A Question of Fear' for an early great performance in a serious role from Leslie Nielsen. Great stuff!

reply

It's almost a shame he will be remembered as Frank Drebbin, while it may have been his most 'famous' role. People forget how great an actor he really was and overlook his more 'serious' performances.

He was probably the most famous underused actor ever.

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he is God.

reply

He definitely could've did more serious roles and
his terrific performance in "Creepshow" proves that.

reply

I do like his role in this one, him being so funny in previous films and then see him do a semi serious role in this one was cool

reply

He played that part very well but it was hard for me not to laugh whenever he was on screen.

Compare your lives to mine and then kill yourselves.

reply

When I saw him in this, I'd only seen him in only one comedic role (Airplane!). Before that I'd only seen him in dramatic roles like the Captain in The Poseidon Adventure. I totally accepted him in this thoroughly evil role. He was terrific.
