Was Mr Pratt really that bad of a guy?

Liberals may think so and this story was designed to make rich people look bad and give us a joy that the rich guy got his in the end.

Mr. Pratt stated he grew up in Hell's Kitchen poor and managed to become a very wealthy person. That alone is worth something. He had a mental disorder for cleanliness which was likely traced back to his childhood. He was successful and was likely done wrong by a lot of people, creating trust issues.

Yes he was a prick, but he was a prick that got things done. You don't get that kind of power being a nice guy. Taking over a company does not make you a bad person. It's business. He likely created many more jobs with his wealth and overall made the city and country richer with his wealth as well. Even with massive tax breaks, he likely paid more taxes than hundreds of Americans.

He had a disgust for the general population and the dump New York City was in the early 80s I don't blame him. He seemed like he had low tolerance for incompetence. I mean I would be upset too if my building managers failed to address a roach problem. Honestly I've met people much worst that Mr. Pratt. I actually felt sorry for him, old, all alone, with all that money and no one he could trust.

Could be that he didn't trust anyone because of all of the people that he screwed getting to the top.

He was racist, completely insensitive to the grieving widow of his former employee who he probably drove to suicide, an egomaniac, and an all around bastard. That being said, I did understand his hatred and disgust of cock roaches. I hate those filthy creatures! So yes he was that bad, but did he deserve to be taken over by bugs? I don't know...

Worse things have happened to nicer people in Stephen King/George Romero stories. Was Mr. Pratt a cut and dry "bad guy"? I don't know, everything we saw was pretty bad. We don't really know enough about him to know what the cause of his various issues might be. And even if there are some underlying causes for his cleanliness and trust issues or whatever, the guy acted like a total d-bag. I won't go so far as to blame Pratt for the suicide, but he did flat out mock the guy's widow. He was so old school that the racism doesn't surprise me much, but he treated everybody like dirt, whatever race/age/gender. Regardless of what made him the jerk he became, he was a jerk. Which makes his demise go down a little bit smoother and with a little more satisfaction than poor old Jordy Verrill for example.

I agree. What did Jordy Verrill do to deserve becoming one giant weed? That story always stuck out from the other revenge tales. Who were the weeds getting revenge on? Why did this meteor just randomly land on his property or was it purposeful? Who knows? But his death is very sad and lonely compared to Nate, Richard, Billie, and Mr. Pratt who were all vile people in some form or another.

I'm pretty sure you're all reading into it a bit too much. They're just short horror stories.

reply

you're making the assumption that Pratt wasn't a liberal. there are rich liberals. there are rich liberal germaphobes. would that change your opinion, if he were?

reply

The whole bug thing was a metaphor for his fear of minorities.

This comes from Stephen King himself.

If you think there's nothing wrong with mocking a grieving widow who's husband hasn't been dead for a day. Welp, you are a POS

reply

Yeah, he pretty much came off as a miserable excuse for a human being in every interaction he had with another person in the movie.
