PLEASE get this title out!!!! Cher. Kathy Bates. Karen Black. The incomparable Sandy Dennis. A twist in the screenplay. I love this film and so do a lot of other people and have impatiently awaited it to come to DVD. If ANYONE knows anything about it, please post it here.

I agree! Why this movie (as well as The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe) is not on DVD is beyond reason! Any idea who or how we could persuade SOMEONE to relaese this? If so, write me at [email protected]

There's a clip of Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean in Tarnation (2003) and in the end credits they credit Paramount Pictures as having the rights to "Five and Dime"...so now we know who to contact to plead with them to put "Five and Dime" on DVD!!!

I love this movie (and the play - when I watched it in a Temple University production).
When it comes out in DVD - and assuming that I haven't died in old age by then - I will be the first person who buys it.

Altman will be receiving a special Oscar this year, which means an upsurge in interest in all his films...which HOPEFULLY will mean it will be released on DVD.-----fingers crossed here.

shareI am sure like most all movies that are never released to dvd someone will be selling it on dvdr on ebay and other such web sites. so many movies will never be released on dvd due to so many legal and licenseing factors (music rights, etc.) so in many cases the only way to see some things is find someone to record it to dvdr (from video tape or from one of the pay movie channles)

and if my memory serves me correctly, Five & Dime was not even mentioned, when they reviewed his career! IMO this was his finest film! Altman is one of the most famous directors of all time, and the movie contains a handful of actresses, that are household names, and most people have never even heard of it!! It's mind boggling!
I think the problem is "WE" are in an extreme minority! The film was a box office flop. It's a unique movie. It has a VERY strong attraction to only a few people! I once raved about it to friend. The next time I saw him, he said, "You got me good!" He had rented it and turned it off half way through. He thought I had tricked him! What are you gonna do?
Somebody should start an electronic petition, and send it to Paramount...
This is a great movie that needs a proper release, with extras etc. There is a large audience for this movie, and it was very cutting edge with its tranny subtheme.
Please, please, let's put pressure on the studios to release this.

This would be a perfect film for The Criterion Collection to release. They've released Altman's obscure 1977 film "3 Women", so why not Five and Dime??
