Poor Sound?

Altman was known for trying to be "realistic" with the sound in his movies, which created a major problem in my opinion with McCabe & Mrs. Miller. I'm trying to watch/listen to this movie now, and get the same impression - the voices/sound are hard and harsh, and difficult to listen to. Anyone else get the same impression??

I first saw this on HBO probably around 1983-84. I don't recall having any problems then.

I just watched it on TCM. I still had no problems at all with the sound. I even decided to videotape it since I thought I might like to revisit it another time. It might get taped over, but I'll have awhile to decide.
