ending question about Mona (spoiler)

Just before the ending we see Mona walk off set and Jo and Sissy are left talking. At one point Jo points to the mirror and we can see Mona...or an image of Mona. They then get together and do one last rendition of the McGuire Sisters song. So was Mona really there? Did Jo and Sissy just pretend she was? Was that the happy image they wanted of the reunion closing? What does it mean?

Interesting you should see it that way. I always thought it was meant as a scene to the future showing that Mona would end up all alone. Her manipulating finally getting the best of her.
