Can anyone tell me what this movie is all about?

If you watch the flashback at the beginning of the movie and then listen to Paul's explanation during Irena's dream, it goes something like this: their ancestors used to sacrifice children to the black leopards. The souls of the children grew inside the leopards until they turned into humans. After that, for some reason, they would turn back into the leopards after having sex. Maybe it was punishment for spreading their seed and bringing about more children. And the only way to return to human form was by killing and eating something. The only way to avoid the transformation was to have sex with their own kind. Since they were the only family in the line, they were doomed to have an incestuous life. Or go without intimate contact for life. I think it's about being doomed to loneliness. I've never seen the original, but they say this one is only loosely based on it.
