Great Movie

I have loved this movie for years, having been a Les Blank fan for even longer. I got the chance to meet him at a documentary film festival in Durham, NC, where I bought a then-very-rare video copy of Werner Herzog eats his Shoe. Now to have the two films in one package is irresistable. I gotta say, I do enjoy documentaries about movies going horribly wrong. Heart of Darkness, Lost in La Mancha are two other well-known examples. After going to film school I can tell you it's a miracle that great films get made at all, what with all the variables that can go wrong while you're trying to realize your masterpiece. All in all, very interesting in Blank's characteristic low-key style.

Other great Blank films:
In Heaven There is No Beer
Garlic is as Good as Ten Mothers
Spend it All
Gap-Toothed Women

I agree, this and Lost in LaMancha are two extraordinary films.

Where can I find Heart of Darkness though? Will it ever get released on DVD?

I'm not so much a documentary officiando- but I did enjoy just watching the film on IFC for the aspect of the scenery - I was very nervous about the tribe taht was always "2 miles/hours?" up the river... :o) Very pretty film...

I just saw this tonight, not expecting to find it very interesting. I was very interested the entire way through, but Herzog's "overwhelming and collective murder" monologue towards the end is what really turned this into a great film for me. Exceptionally well edited too.

I instinctively never read the last line of someone's post because I think it's a stupid signature.
