different from my best fiend?
I've seen Fitzcarraldo and My Best Fiend. I'm thinking of getting Burden of Dreams from Netflix. Having seen those two films, will this cover enough new ground to be interesting, or is it not worth renting?

shareIt's worth renting, especially since you've seen Fitzcarraldo. Who wouldn't want to watch how chaotic and all the hardships the crew put up with. Fitzcarraldo is still know to be his best movie by movie-watchers.
I also recommend that you check out Aguirre, the Wrath of God and Cobra Verde after that, which personally are a few of my favorite ones by Werner. You really can't go wrong with the Herzog/Kinski collaboration. They're like Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde with the touch of King Midas.
"In celluloid we trust." -Herzog
I must kindly challenge your assertion that "Fitzcarraldo is still known to be his best movie by movie-watchers." I would have to say that either Aguirre: The Wrath of God, Grizzly Man, or Rescue Dawn holds that honor – the latter two because they are what most modern moviegoers might know him by, and the former because it opened him up to an international audience.
sharePopularity and social significance is remarkably unimportant to someone like Herzog.
That being said, Rescue Dawn was one of his worst movies.
Indeed, but that wasn't the point of my comment. I was simply saying that Fitzcarraldo is not the film for which most "movie-watchers" regard Herzog. The "Known For" section on Herzog's IMDb page also lists the same three films that I named before Fitzcarraldo.
shareRealize its been a while since your inquiry, but right now you can watch Burden of Dreams for free at The Auteurs: http://www.theauteurs.com/criterion.
And though I have not seen My Best Fiend, BoD deals very little with Kinski as a person, more as just another factor of the making of this movie. It is really more about the physical difficulties of the movie as well as the difficulties with the indigenous people. Its great, check it out!!!
They cover the same topics but in remarkably different ways. As for my favourite Herzog movie, Heart of Glass really turned me onto him, but I also love Nosferatu, The Bad Lieutenant, and Little Dieter Needs to Fly.
