The setting doesn't match the story
In the original TV version, the Bates family live in a normal suburban semi like a typical lower middle-class family and this is emphasised by Mrs Bates' feeling of being trapped and various discussions about not being able to afford a carer for Pattie. Yet in this movie version, they seem to live in the Addams Family house! Surely anyone who could afford to live in a rambling gothic mansion like that could afford a carer with little problem.
