What was the budget on this film?
I was just curious.
shareThe site reports it as 22,000,000, which is absolutely ridiculous. The movie looks like it could've been made for tv much of the time, and outside of Nicholson it features no above-the-line serious expenses. The entire film looks to have been made on location in what I assume would be about the cheapest areas in which to film in perhaps the world, outside of LA streets. If this thing really did cost $22 million, I want to know how and why, certainly. I believe that's a million more than Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Maybe the superimposed wind swirls during the climax cost $14 million to add. Outside of Nicholson's check there's no reason this should have cost more than 4,000,000.
"Rampart: Squad 51."
I agree, to think that The Border costed more than Raiders of the Lost Ark is ludicrous. I mean $22,000,000 was A LOT of dough for a movie budget back in that era and was usually spent on spectacular epics like Raiders. Therefore, The Border wouldn't seem like the type of movie to justify that cost. If I had to make a guess, I would have thought the budget was $10,000,000 at the most, with half of it going to Nicholson's salary.
"It's not that tough being a film cricket."
