Drugs and Alcohol

I wonder what his reason was for joking abiut those 2 topics?

I mean yes I had to laugh when he mentioned the the crazy guy making a big to do of the BK people cooking the meat and him thanking the toilet bowl but still most of it was dumb.

I have a good deal of cassette tape of him going back to the 60's and none of them have anything as extreme.

might be his own way of saying how stupid it is. Bill Cosby is known to be against profanity and being a father of multiple kids I guess it would only make sense to also warn people about drugs and alcohol?

reply

Yeah, I mean he's certainly not advocating drug or alcohol use in these routines, so it's pretty consistent with his wholesome persona.

reply

Extreme? I think you may have missed the point of that particular routine....

His whole point about that was laid out at the beginning of the routine... "How is this 'having a good time'?!" He's pointing out that these people work all week to get to the weekend, and then completely WRECK themselves during those two days.

If you get a chance, watch it on Netflix' "Watch Instantly". It's available online now, I just watched the show tonight :P

He reason for joking about them was to illustrate how pitifully stupid getting drunk and doing drugs is. It doesn't get any simpler than that: it doesn't make any sense, and so it's the perfect fodder for comedy.

The downside to poking fun of it is that it has the adverse effect of wiping away the seriousness of the subject. However, for a comedy act by one of the cleanest comics in America, I'm willing to let that one slide.

It was hilarious. "It intensifies your personality. But what if you're an *beep* ROFL!!

"I am the ultimate badass, you do not wanna `*beep*` wit' me!" Hudson in Aliens.

reply

You kiddin'? He did an album called "For Adults Only" where he cusses up a storm!

But yeah, he wasn't advocating drugs in the least... he was ripping apart people who "have a good time" by hurting themselves.

Depends if the allegations have any merit. I say no. No one can hide that much guilt for fifty years.
