Career-killing movie

Almost everyone involved in this was washed up after this flopped. Yes, they all continued to work, but none of their movies were great anymore. 3/10 stars from me.

Both Dolly and Burt went on to do successful movies after this... Stroker Ace... City Heat...Steel Magnolias... Straight Talk.

How were they washed up? They had huge careers afterword. They were nowhere close to washed up.

Burt did Stick, Malone, Physical Evidence, Raven, Boogie Nights. All very enjoyable movies.

And yet 40 years on and Dolly Parton is still on top of her game 🤔

This movie is like a warm blanket for me. I love everything about it.

By the way, this film DID NOT flop! It made 69 million from a 20 million budget, dethroned ET from its six week number-one US box office run, and was the fourth highest grossing musical of the 80s.

It was as huge as Dolly’s bra.

I haven't seen this movie since it was on HBO in the 1980's.

Never shown on cable where I live.

I think I'll order the DVD..for uhh.. nostalgic purposes... of course.

I had to order the DVD because I couldn’t find a local retailer who had it in stock. I put it on if I’m feeling down and it always lifts my mood 🙂

Also works great as a double feature with the OTHER best musical from the 80s, The Little Shop of Horrors.
