Did the White Dog really dies????....

Has the white dog really been killed for the movie? (the one that´s caught by an arrow)
Is that I´ve looked at it very close and looks too much real when dead.

What do you think?

jalkor Is right check out 23:45 to 24:10 In the movie
the dog moves his lips and breathes
good actor though or whatever you call canines in films

reply

No, the dog really does not die. When he lays the dog down by his "father" you can see the dog's face move, and you can see him breathing. It looks like he was sedated, obviously, but they absolutely did not kill the animal for the film.

reply

I worked on the set as a gaffer and yeah unfortunately we had to pop that pooch. He just kept messing up scene after scene. Marc really hated the dog too. So in effort to get the scene shot before dark we shot the dog.

reply

Har-de-har-har! Then how did the dog "star" in movies afterwards? Was it really a hound of Hell??? :oP

Got an answer for that too Einstein.....stunt double.

reply

Oh really? Nice try. It was the same dog. The dog wasn't really killed. And Einstein? My, aren't we touchy!, no need to get rude and testy.

I can't stand it, when animals are killed in movies.

The dog was sedated for that shot? I'm pretty sure that's against animal rights.

I don't know if it was sedated or not, but I must admit that the thought is not wildly out of place, especially considering how still the animal was. Either it was given a sedative or was a superbly trained animal. Maybe it's the latter since there's actually more room for error on a mildy sedated dog (head lolling, etc...) and I didn't see its tongue hanging out of its mouth.

As for the legality of it. It was the early 80's. I don't think they were as stringent about that sort of thing back then.

reply

No, the dog stayed alive. In fact, if you check the goofs section, there are
a few mentions of the dog breathing and moving it is supposed to be dead. You can also train a dog to "play dead," especially for the highly trained
"movie dogs."

As for Buffripley's comment - please lighten up people. I read that an cracked up because you can tell the sarcasm. It's no different from you say, "I'll kill you if you touch my fries."

Word has it the tiger, on the other hand, did die because of this movie. The tiger they used wasn't actually black; they dyed it and, eventually, it ended up killing the poor thing (some skin problems, I believe). Finding that out saddened me. None should die for -- ultimately -- the sake of entertainment.

It's all incidental. The dog died in reality a long time ago. If it had offspring, they'd be dead by now too.

reply

Watching it now and I said "that dogs an amazing actor" then I realized they probably drugged him for that part of the film.
