Do you think it might be "The Fly" (1986)? Jeff Goldblum had some coarse, creepy hairs growing out of his upper back that Geena Davis cut off. Just a guess.

That's not this film. Maybe "The Dark Backward," where a guy grows a third arm out of his back? There's also "How to Get Ahead in Advertising," where a pimple on a guy's neck grows an extra head. But that's more a satire than a horror film.

It might be this one, but also happens in the film 'The Manitou' (1977) - good luck finding the scene you're thinking of! May be in even more than those 2!

This HAS to be the movie with the guy that has something nasty on his upper back. I saw this when I was about 6 years old and that image still haunts me to this day. It's like big disgusting bumps on his back where his spine is, probably from a transformation scene. I will never forget the title "The Beast Within" just because of that disgusting back. It's the only image I remember.
Just rent it and watch, then you'll know for sure :-)

Okay, just found it on youtube. It just one giant ball coming out of his upper back in the spine area. I can't believe this use to creep me out. So cheesy now, but still kind of disgusting.

Yeah, this is probably the movie. I just watched it last night and he has this weird opening in his back close to his neck. During the transformation scene, the opening gets bigger and something unexplained starts growing from it. It's really bizarre.

Yeah - watched this on Netflix stream. At about exactly one hour into it Michael MacCleary checks it out in the mirror, a long ugly gash that runs along his spine between his shoulder blades.

Yes it's this movie. Just saw it a couple hours ago. He has a nasty thing on his back near his neck. The dr starts cutting it and this gross thing comes out of it. Right then the transformation starts.
