Any female fans?

i adore this movie. I saw it when I was 6 and it had the distinction of being the scariest movie I'd ever seen. It would later lose this distinction to the Exorcist and the Entity, but I practically I pissed blood over this in nightmares. So I love it!

may be cheap now and what not, but I don't care. I saw it at the right time in my life (enough not to be irritated by the plot holes) and so I'm a fan!

I lent my copy to a female friend of mine. She thought it was confusing, but still entertaining nonetheless!

OneSickChick,

you didn't disclose to us what about THE BEAST WITHIN thrilled you the most.
So what was it? Don't be politically correct. Tell us.

Intense horror flicks of the late 70s into the very early 80s were among the best and many became cult classics.

hi everybody, ok i'm a girl & i just watched this for the very 1st time! wow! i've never heard of this movie. anyway, one of the things that shocked me was the first rape. i mean it happened in the 1st 5 min of the movie & they showed a LOT for 1982. dont u think? then in the LAST 5 min another rape with frontal hair. i mean i watch LOTS of horror movies & i cant remember ever seeing a monster/creature strip a persons panties off & then rape them. normally theres a lot of blood, slash/stab & breasts in 80's horror. ok, but the transformation was just GREAT! i just gotta get a copy to ad to my vintage horror collection. time to get to ebay. oh! also, i didnt think it was confusing at all. i was very impressed with this movie. i love B movies, they're typically predictable but this had some real twists.

Hi nastypuppy,
I'm surprised you hadn't heard of this horror flick. It came out on the theaters back in 1981 but then disappeared into VHS history. You can still find new DVD copies in mass merchandiser stores.

Full frontal nudity was not prohibited in 1981, just not widely employed. The reason THE BEAST WITHIN could depict full nudity was its acceptance of a R rating and the reliance on a female body stunt double. The actresses Bibi Besch and Kitty Moffat didn't have to undertake embarassing nudity. The body double didn't have to worry about her reputation since her face was well concealed.

I learned from another fan that a female student from a local college was hired to do the nude scenes. On a lark I invited that female body double to come on to this thread and tell us about her probable one and only film experience as a nude double. It explained why in the movie, the nude female victim looks much different than the actresses. Bibi Besch was only 5'4". The female nude body double looks to be 5'10".

By the way, I enjoy looking at the 'little details' for stunt work in action/sci-fi/horror flicks. I should have worked for the entertainment industry in the props and special effects department. It looks like lots of fun. You mentioned the panties being ripped off. Look closer again. In order to achieve that effect, the props or costume department had to make a small scissors cut across the waistband so that the creature stuntman could rip the panties apart easily. Otherwise the stuntman creature would have struggled trying to rip an elastic band. It's the little details. Read my post on the special effects employed for the 1981 horror flick, "The Entity". I got into some much detail, though, that well, some found it 'creepy'. But I love the special effects and props work from an inventive and imaginative standpoint.

By the way, nastypuppy,

If you liked the BEAST WITHIN for its raw explicit damsel-in-distress action, then I think you'll like watching,

GALAXY OF TERROR (1981)
HUMONGOUS (1982)
BLOODCASTLE (1975)
LISA AND THE DEVIL (1973)
THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM (1991)
TERROR PLANET aka, INSEMINOID (1983)
XTRO (1983)

Female here and yes I enjoyed the movie. The thing that sucked is I saw it on a channel that totally cut all nudity, gore and completely eliminated the rape scenes altogether. So obviously it was a little confusing and disjointed. I came here and got the answers I needed though.

I adore this film. Amanda and Michael are my all time fave horror movie couple.

hey y'all...watching it on Comet right now...about 1/2 hr in i guess

loving it so far...it's got that cheap budget, real life feel to it

especially the kitchen scene where the sick escapee boy-animal fake-delivers the old guy's groceries and the old southern man proceeds to recognize after initially dismissing the boy with probably .30 cent tip---that he's skinny and maybe they'll whip up a couple hamburgers (complete with ole boy mixing in some worschester and mashing it with his grimy hands!)

i love it cause that is SO what some southerners would do (and even contemplating extending the meat with some saltine crackers lol!)...people just aren.t like that anymore

then michael proceeds to sit there with a grimace on his til he transforms and attacks the guy!

i'll report back as the movie goes...nice creepy feel tho :)
